After a week of being excited about the snow shoes, I have hit another snag – raw hide lacing.  As far as I have been able to find, the lacing is likely not only to cost more than the rest of the materials so far, but more than a brand new pair of snow shoes.  The only site I have found which sells lacing in lengths specifically for snow shoes (rather than by the yard) is asking $250 for enough for two shoes.  The other websites  do charge by the yard, though it looks no less expensive, AND I have to figure out how many yards I need.  I have found several offers for a new pair of traditional shoes for under $200.  So now I have to decide whether to use an alternative  (synthetic) material.  Ack.
